This Tremont Street condo had great bones, but years of wear and outdated finishes had left it feeling tired. When our client purchased the unit, they saw the potential for something special—a refined, modern home in the heart of Boston’s South End. That’s when they brought in CZ Construction Management to lead a full design-build renovation that would completely transform the space.

A Collaborative Design-Build Approach

From day one, we worked closely with both the client and architect to bring their vision to life. Our goal was to create a modern, luxurious condo that felt warm, balanced, and functional. Every detail—from the layout to the lighting—was carefully coordinated between design intent and construction reality.

The project began with a full gut renovation. Once the walls were opened, we uncovered extensive water damage and severely uneven floors—off by nearly five inches in some areas. Our team corrected the structural issues, replaced subfloors, and reworked the framing to ensure everything was square and level before moving on to finishes.

We also reconfigured interior walls to open the layout and installed a new heat pump forced-air system, giving the unit modern comfort with efficient zoning and sleek linear grills.

The Kitchen as a Statement Piece

The kitchen was designed to be the focal point of the home. We used European slab cabinetry with high-end quartz countertops, blending contemporary lines with premium craftsmanship. A custom soffit and lowered ceiling detail framed the space, giving the kitchen its own architectural presence.

At the heart of it all is a large island anchored by a Miele range, surrounded by fully integrated Miele paneled appliances—steam oven, microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher. Every element was chosen to enhance both form and function.

Modern Finishes and Thoughtful Details

Throughout the condo, we installed engineered hardwood floors—a traditional plank pattern in the bedrooms and hallway, shifting to a herringbone layout in the kitchen and study for subtle contrast.

Both bathrooms were reimagined from the ground up. The shared bathroom features subway tile walls, a tub with a tiled skirt, and a custom vanity. The primary suite bathroom feels like a luxury hotel with heated tile floors, a custom double-sink vanity, high-end lighting, and a walk-in shower with illuminated niche lighting.

The primary bedroom was enlarged to include a TV wall, walk-in closet, and calm, cohesive finishes that tie into the rest of the design. We replaced all the doors and trim, and upgraded the entire lighting package with 2-inch recessed fixtures to give every room a clean, modern glow.

Coordination and Project Challenges

Renovating in Boston’s South End always comes with its challenges—and this project was no exception. The building offered no dedicated laydown area, so deliveries had to be live-loaded directly into the unit and carefully sequenced around other residents.

We also worked closely with building management and the HOA to coordinate utility shut-downs, sprinkler relocations, and common-area protection throughout the construction process. Respecting the other condo owners in the building was a top priority, so our team maintained a strict cleanup schedule and clear communication with management every step of the way.
